This morning, I began organizing my already collected "trash". I'm using a basket for all plastic, a re-usable grocery bag for styrofoam, and a cardboard box for all paper products. I collected all of the articles left around my house and added them to the bins. This mainly included used paper from Fall quarter, junk mail, miscellaneous paper, and cardboard boxes.
With so many paper products already collected, I decided to make paper today. I dumped all of the paper & cardboard into a 5 gallon bucket that was sitting outside. It has been raining really hard in San Luis for the past week so the bucket was already filled with water! I let the paper soak for a while and then began dumping batches of it into the blender. This created paper pulp. We also added some leaves to give the paper a natural smell and a green tinting!
Then, Myles made a screen out of an old t-shirt and picture frame. We then poured pulp on the screen, pressed out the extra water, and laid the paper onto a towel. Myles also made a circular screen out of an old bike wheel so we could press circular paper!
