Today's "waste" included compostable food waste, some mess-up printer paper, and 1 tomato sauce can.
Today was also the end of the 3rd week of the 1 Year, 0 Waste Project! Yayyy!
Furthermore, I found something to make out of a couple of cans today! I was biking along the rail trail and found a gigantic pile of metal railroad plates and spikes. I picked up a nice super heavy plate and brought it back home in my backpack. It took a while to figure out what to do with it and then I thought that it was a perfect piece for the base of a lamp!
So, using the railroad plate, assorted cans, a string of Christmas lights, two bike wheel spokes, a bike wheel rim, and some screws and nuts, I started making this awesome lamp! I twisted up the bike wheel in a nice shape after cutting it in one section and fastened it to the plate with a screw and a large make-shift washer from tuna can lids as seen here:
To add one more point of attachment, I used two spokes with the smashed ends in a rim drillout and then the other ends wrapped through holes in the railroad plate. Then I twisted the two together with the drill until it was tight as seen in the second photo here. Doesn't that railroad plate have an awesome profile and great patina?!
Then, I drilled holes in assorted cans, put Christmas lights in them and screwed them onto the bike rim. Only got a couple done tonight but more will come tomorrow and completed Can Lamp photos!
